CHALLENGE

While front-end development wasn’t particularly challenging — thanks to our ability to quickly bring a skilled developer on board — the design aspect required more effort.


First, creating a UI/UX design for a complex fintech system required close collaboration with the client and additional research. Second, producing a product presentation in video format demanded speed and a proactive approach, as the client was uncertain about the content and needed guidance.

PLATFORM OVERVIEW

The Apata platform combines advanced features for transaction authentication, risk profiling, and fraud prevention with an intuitive dashboard for real-time monitoring. Designed for ease of use, the platform allows businesses to manage card programs, generate detailed reports, and ensure system health — all from one central hub.

 

The platform is designed to accommodate the unique needs of various financial institutions. Each institution has its own risk profiles, card programs, and settings that need to be tailored individually. Apata allows easy management of these configurations, ensuring seamless payment processing while maintaining flexibility and security across different clients and setups.

From core functionality to a full-scale product

Apata started as an API for transaction processing, handling secure payments and communication between merchants, payment gateways, and financial institutions. As the product evolved, the OTAKOYI team developed an admin portal for a client to manage transactions and settings, which gradually expanded into a full-scale platform.

Complex platform design

Our team focused on creating a user-friendly yet powerful UI/UX for the platform, ensuring it could handle complex security features without overwhelming users. We prioritized clarity, simplicity, and accessibility, making it easy for both technical and non-technical users to navigate.

Dashboard

A central place where users can see all key information and monitor their payment security in real-time.

Authentication

The Authentication section of the platform integrates key features designed to secure transactions and verify user identities. It includes:

  • Risk Profile

    Analyzes transaction and user behavior to assess potential fraud risks and ensure secure payments.

  • Challenge Methods

    Provides various options to verify transactions or users, such as sending one-time codes or security questions, adding an extra layer of protection.

  • Card Programs

    Manages different types of card programs (debit, credit, etc.), ensuring they are securely integrated with the 3D Secure solution for enhanced protection.

Reports

Tools that generate detailed reports, showing transaction data, security alerts, and other metrics of choice.

System health

This functionality monitors the platform's performance and overall status, including real-time API availability rates, to ensure everything is functioning smoothly and reliably.

User and financial institutions management

These tools allow businesses to manage users (like staff or clients) and any partner institutions involved, such as banks or processors.

Settings and support

Apata also anticipated customization options for users to adjust the platform to their needs and access help or support if they encounter issues.

MERCHANT SIMULATOR

Our developer also implemented a Merchant Simulator, a key tool that allows businesses to test 3D Secure transactions in a controlled environment. It simulates various payment scenarios, including different card types, authentication methods, and fraud attempts, ensuring the platform handles real-world transactions smoothly. Once developed, the Apata team gained a game-changing advantage.

Customization is the key

Additionally, we developed a variety of customized templates for payment confirmation, such as email templates where users enter a code to verify their payments. These templates were tailored for different banks, each with unique designs that fit their brand and user experience requirements. Behind the scenes, we ensured smooth tracking and processing of all transactions, keeping everything secure and efficient.

This project has been integral to my career, as it was long-term and I built a strong connection with our client’s team, enjoying a friendly atmosphere. We shared opinions on the high quality of work, end-to-end testing, and the overall efficiency of the project. I had many opportunities to grow, from working with new technologies to creating new interfaces based on exciting design materials. I’m grateful for this pleasant experience.
